Ulivi centenari patrimonio dell’Unes
co. Se la proposta lanciata nei giorni scorsi dal portale “La terra di Puglia” diventasse realtà, Corato potrebbe vantare un esemplare di tutto rispetto, forse un progenitore della “cultivar coratina”.
«È alto quanto un palazzo di tre piani ed ha un tronco che per abbracciarlo ci vogliono quattro o cinque persone». Ce lo descrive così Giuseppe Del Console, nato e cresciuto nel frantoio di famiglia, attento conoscitore e amante del nostro territorio.
Da tempo avremmo voluto parlare di questo ulivo che troneggia in una proprietà privata di via Santa Lucia e in questi giorni abbiamo avuto l’occasione giusta per farlo.
La petizione si pone due obiettivi specifici: «il riconoscimento da parte dell’Unesco degli antichi ulivi pugliesi quale patrimonio dell’umanità» e «l’istituzione ad aree protette delle zone ad alta intensità olivicola».
Le firme raccolte sono già 700. L’iniziativa sarà sottoposta all’attenzione della Regione Puglia e dell’Organizzazione delle Nazioni Unite per l’educazione, la scienza e la cultura. Condividendo il progetto anche su Twitter, gli organizzatori hanno sottolineato come «le immense distese di uliveti che caratterizzano la Puglia debbano essere tutelate e proclamate aree protette per il loro alto e particolare valore ambientalistico, paesaggistico, storico ed alimentare».
Riguardo al nostro ulivo, pare non siano stati fatti studi scientifici per accertarne la datazione in maniera del tutto precisa, ma non si sbaglia a dire che è stato piantato circa 500-600 anni fa.
«Pare che gli ulivi che producono la coratina non esistessero nelle nostre zone fino a prima delle crociate» continua Del Console. «Ad importare a Corato le prime piante dall’oriente furono alcuni monaci. Loro stessi, com’era d’uso per gli ordini religiosi, si presero cura degli alberi, sviluppandone e perfezionandone la resa.
Solo dopo piante di ulivo come le nostre si sono diffuse nelle zone limitrofe, si pensi a Canosa e Andria. Una tipologia di albero abbastanza resistente agli attacchi dei parassiti e degli agenti atmosferici, con una buona produzione di olive e un’ottima resa per l’olio. Senza parlare ovviamente delle ormai note proprietà organolettiche».
Rendere questo ulivo patrimonio dell’Unesco potrebbe significare tante cose, per esempio riuscire a renderlo un’attrattiva per il turismo, un simbolo indiscusso della storia del nostro territorio.
«Se avessero avuto questo albero in Toscana o all’estero – aggiunge ancora – non si esagera a pensare che attorno gli avrebbero creato un museo, che l’avrebbero reso quasi “tappa di un pellegrinaggio”.
Da anni cerco di sottoporlo all’attenzione di tutti. Vorrei che qualcuno si interessasse all’unico ulivo così antico che abbiamo in città. Averlo e dimenticarsene è davvero un peccato, nei confronti della natura e della storia».
Eppure c’è anche un’altra questione da non sottovalutare.
«Non si può pensare – precisa – che tutte le zone ad alta intensità olivicola debbano diventare zone tutelate. Bisogna tener presente che i proprietari delle terre devono veder tutelato il loro diritto di rendere produttiva gli appezzamenti che possiedono. E’ necessaria una distinzione. Esiste già una legge che punisce severamente chi abbatte gli ulivi senza autorizzazione.
Sono assolutamente d’accordo con la proposta di tutelare alberi come questo di cui parliamo oggi, tanto più se l’obiettivo è quello di dimostrare ai posteri le origini della nostra storia.
Inoltre, c’è da dirlo, bisogna che le istituzioni stiano al fianco dei proprietari degli alberi secolari se li considerano una ricchezza. Può sembrare banale ma per curare questa pianta secolare servono interventi specifici e attrezzature ad hoc, servono soldi».
In una delle due immagini dell’albero che vi proponiamo nella galleria fotografica, si vede l’ulivo secolare “ripulito” dalle piante che in realtà si trovano lì attorno: «è il sogno della valorizzazione della pianta secolare. Io e mia figlia abbiamo realizzato questo fotomontaggio ripulendo la zona circostante all’ulivo.
Esso attualmente si trova circondato da altri ulivi (come si vede nell’immagine utilizzata in homepage, ndr) e accanto non ha affatto una strada, tanto più come quella che si vede nell’immagine. Ho sempre sognato che quell’ulivo fosse raggiungibile come in questa immagine, che tutti potessero ammirarlo e che a prendersene cura fossero in tanti».
Chissà che questa non sia la volta buona. Ecco come sottoscrivere la petizione.

Centuries-old olive trees a Unesco.

About our olive trees, apparently have not been made scientific studies to determine the dating in a totally accurate, but it is wrong to say it was planted about 500-600 years ago.

«If they had had this tree in Tuscany or abroad- adds- don’t overdo it to think that around would create a museum that would make almost “leg of a pilgrimage”.

Yet there is also another issue to be reckoned with.
«You may not think- out -that all high-intensity areas should become protected areas concerned. We must bear in mind that land owners should have protected their right to make productive the plots they own. A distinction is needed. There is already a law that severely punishes anyone who shoots down the olive trees without permission.
I totally agree with the proposal to protect trees like this we are talking about today, especially if the goal is to demonstrate to posterity the origins of our history.
Moreover, there is to say, the institutions are on the side of the owners of the trees if you consider them a richness. It may seem trivial but to cure this age-old plant serve specific interventions and ad hoc equipment, need money».

It is currently surrounded by other olive trees (as seen in the image used on the homepage) and next doesn’t have any road, much like the one you see in the image. I always dreamed that Olivier was reached as in this picture, that everyone could see it and they take care of many».
